Application for Certificate of Validation

Certain operational and technical personnel must hold a licence validation issued by the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry before flight or prior to carrying out maintenance on M registered aircraft.

The IOMAR will validate appropriately type rated flight crew licences issued by a contracting state to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (ICAO). We accepts the licencing/medical certificate variations/exemptions issued by the State of Licence Issuance (the “Licensing Authority”) unless specified otherwise.  However, the Isle of Man Certificate of Validation of a flight crew licence is conditional on the licence holder complying with the requirements of their Licencing Authority.

Any restrictions or conditions imposed by the Licencing Authority as part of their variation/exemption must also be complied with by the licence holder when operating an aircraft registered in the Isle of Man. These conditions nor any requirements specified in the notes about actions the licence holder must take are not for the IOMAR to police.

Please note the text on our certificate of validation which states: “This validation and all attached privileges is contingent upon the continued validity of the said licence of the issuing State”. Any noncompliance by the licence holder with the Licencing Authority regulations/exemptions whilst operating an aircraft registered in the Isle of Man would in our view invalidate the licence and therefore invalidate the Isle of Man Certificate of Validation.

It is the responsibility of the licence holder to satisfy themselves that exercise of their licence privileges remains in accordance with the requirements and conditions imposed by their Licencing Authority.

The Isle of Man Registry offers 3 different types of validations

See below for details.

Charges will be payable prior to issue of the validation. An invoice will be sent to the applicant for settlement. Please note you have 5 working days to make the payment. If payment is not received in this time, the application will be cancelled.

Aircraft operators are reminded that they are accountable for ensuring that their crew are appropriately trained and maintain currency to the required standard as outlined in RP4 and that only IOMAR validated flight crew that meet these requirements shall operate the aircraft in accordance with its particular Operational Approval(s).

  • Class/type rating.
  • Registration Mark.
